Growth Through Crowdfunding Investments

One of our clients is an up and coming film production and marketing start up. They tailor their film production to the online market and style their productions in a way that is better suited to social media, YouTube and website marketing. A number of the current adverts are tailored more to TV marketing and they have therefore found a niche in the market in which to grow. We were involved with the company from day one and assisted the company as it grew from £30,000 turnover and just the one director and a couple of part time sub-contractors in 2017 to a firm with turnover of £126,000, 6 employees and multiple sub-contracts in 2018 with further growth evident since then.

We were able to work hand in hand with the clients and SEEDRS an equity crowdfunding platform to obtain £150,000 of seed funding, ensuring the funding received SEIS treatment approved in advance by HMRC to further encourage the investors to invest in the company.

This £150,000 has subsequently been spent on a significant amount of new filming equipment to allow the company to further expand its operations and we expect to further significant growth in the 2019 accounts.

When seeking funding as a start-up there are a variety of options, if you are willing to part with some equity in the business then crowdfunding sites such as SEEDRS can offer an excellent means of obtaining the funding required and we are able to help along the way ensuring that all of the necessary filings are in place with HMRC and all of the potential tax pitfalls are assessed.
